Victoria is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at CMAP Health. She started her counseling career over ten years ago, working with a large online community whose aim was to help people stop drinking. Since then, she has graduated with a Masters of Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and also hold a Masters Certificate in Addiction and Mental Health from Durham College. She has experience counseling adults with substance use disorders with an emphasis on harm reduction, and is expanding her practice to include psychotherapy for pregnant and parenting persons; including new parents and those suffering from postpartum-related issues. From 2015-2020, Victoria worked the front lines of the opioid epidemic at a safe consumption site and wet shelter. Her psychotherapeutic style is strongly influenced by her experiences working alongside peers and People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs). She takes a non-judgmental approach to addictive behaviours and has experience treating alcohol use disorder, gambling and internet addictions, and opiate use disorder. When asked why she wanted to work with us at CMAP health and what her clients could expect from her, this was Victoria’s response: "As a clinician, I am rooted in Cognitive-Behavioural therapeutic formulations and interventions for anxiety and depressive disorders. I like to understand how a person’s past and present thoughts, feelings, and behaviours have created challenging patterns. Together, we can work on formulating an appropriate goal for the future and systematically work towards it. I am also on the path to become a certified EMDR clinician. Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapeutic modality used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I provide EMDR to clients who have complex trauma, as well as clients with recent traumatic experiences. I believe therapy is more than a career. I have been curious about psychology and neuroscience since grade 6, after reading a book about the brain. I carry this into my sessions by being present and attuned to your struggles and triumphs, and everything in between. What you can expect from me is a keen interest in your life, a curiosity to know more and understand, and a feeling that we are a team. I believe people are capable of healing because it’s in our nature. Sometimes though, we get stuck in patterns that are no longer serving us, so we need some help to become aware of the issue, brainstorm ways to break the cycle, and figure out how to maintain change."
