Jennifer Nelson is a registered psychotherapist who offers individual therapy, couple and group therapy to a variety of populations in a wide range of settings. She very distinctly brings a deep understanding of Gender Spectrum and of sexual orientation in her therapy. Most of her professional experience and expertise is in working with individuals experiencing PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Concurrent disorders (mental health and addictions), Hoarding behaviours, and Borderline Personality Disorder. She has formal training and supervision in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. She is also well versed in Motivation Interviewing. She combines these approaches towards evidence-based practices which meet best practice guidelines. Jennifer is warm, non-judgemental, genuine and relaxed. Her sessions are collaborative and bring out the clients’ wisdom, life experiences, values, strengths, vulnerabilities, concerns and challenges. Her role is to offer creativity, knowledge, expertise and experience towards the goal of nurturing the clients’ innate wisdom to promote growth and life balance Depending the clients’ needs she collaboratively uses a range of techniques and interventions. These include worksheets, home practice suggestions, art directives/therapy exercises, mindfulness exercises, journaling, book or pod cast suggestions to name a few. Sessions offer practical strategies and tools to use independently. Jennifer is a lifelong learner and teacher who continues to attend workshops and seminars on advances in treatments. She is a supervisor in psychotherapy with 10 years of experience and currently provides clinical supervision for therapists working towards the membership of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
